As speckled trout grow and reach spawning age, their dietary needs evolve from shrimp to fin fish such as Pogies, Finger Mullet, Cocahoe and Glass Minnows, Violet Gobies and Croaker.
Will a large trout each a shrimp? Of course it will. But so will small under sized trout. To effectively and consistently target larger trout you need to mimic the species they prey on rather than rely on chance.
To that end, we’ve created a collection of body profiles and colors that do just that, mimic the prey of bigger trout. That collection is called the Prey Bait Series. The colors include: Croaker, Finger Mullet, Cocahoe, Pogie and Glass Minnow.
All five colors are offered in our three twitch bait profiles: 5” Jerk Shad, 3.8” Jerk Shad Jr. and the 4” Ghost Shad. This gives you the option of fishing the exact available food source for that particular time of the year and in the exact presentation necessary to target big trout.
Take your pick as to the body profile you think will work best. Whether twitching a 5” Jerk Shad or 4” Ghost Shad for trout over oyster reefs or rock piles or double rigging a Jerk Shad Jr. under a cork, there’s an option for every situation.
